This is another AMC interview from San Diego Comic-Con, this time with Godzilla 2014 star Elizabeth Olsen. She talks about her reasons for wanting to do this film and working with Gareth Edwards and a great cast.

Godzilla 2014 Bryan Cranston Interview from SDCC
This is a great video interview of Godzilla 2014 star Bryan Cranston by AMC taken at the San Diego Comic-Con. When asked how Legendary's Godzilla is a new for audiences, he said the thing that really impressed him was director Gareth Edwards showed "restraint" in telling the story. He spends a lot of time on building the characters so we really care about them and shows the monster sparingly to build suspense. Cranston seems to have fun making sexual innuendo with that word restraint, too. He also gives some advice (or lack there of) on how to survive Godzilla. Everything I see and read makes me sure that Legendary and Edwards are making a great film, not only a monster movie. I can't wait.
Godzilla 2014 Bob Eggleton Sketch
This is a sketch of the new Godzilla 2014 design done by Bob Eggleton. Eggleton is well known to Godzilla fans as one of the best Godzilla artists of all time. He's rendered Godzilla for numerous comic book and novel covers and illustrations. It's unclear if he was involved in the designing of Legendary's Godzilla or he sketched this from the Godzilla Encounter images, but from the quote, he seems to have some access behind the scenes. Thanks to Tom Fardy and Nick Murray from the Godzilla 3D Facebook page for these.

Here you are, Famous Monsters Of Filmland's Godzilla artist Bob Eggleton has revealed this:
"He's got a dog/bear like forward vision face that I think lends a lot of personality. His spikes start off the back of his head and, he has what appears to be spiky, thorny shoulders and these "thorns" extend down the arm. Which is exactly how Akira Takarada described him..."
And yes, original Godzilla actor Akira Takarada IS in this new movie, which is a contemporary remake of the original 1954 film.

Godzilla 2014 Official Design Photos
This is a still shot of the Godzilla in profile from the Godzilla Encounter event at SDCC 2013. The design is similar, but slightly different than the "bearzilla" concept sculpture also on display at the Encounter. It reminds me of a "dragon-like" sculpture that surfaced a few years ago and may have evolved from that. It's also reminiscent of the Millennium Godzilla design, especially Tokyo S.O.S. with a tapering neck and small, triangular head. Finally, the profile reminds me of the basilisk monster from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, though the snout is not so narrow.
When we see Godzilla's face close-up in the window, it reminds me of the 1985 design. This is a great look for Godzilla that is traditional and makes fans happy, but will also appeal to modern audiences that don't know Godzilla as well.
I have 2 videos of the Encounter Godzilla posted you can view, there's the Godzilla Encounter Footage video and the Slow-Motion version. Please watch and leave your comments below or in the forum.

Godzilla 2014 Encounter Design Sculpture
Here are a couple of new images of the (official) Godzilla design sculpture from the Godzilla Encounter event. This probably isn't the final design, but pretty close. Wow, I can't wait. And check out the Godzilla Encounter footage!

Leaked Godzilla Encounter (Trailer) Footage!!
Here it is! The next best thing to a full trailer is the Godzilla Encounter footage from the SDCC. It shows Godzilla walking by the window in profile an close up. You can tell the people at Legendary got it right. It's similar, but slightly different to the "bear" Godzilla sculpture we saw, but still, very traditional look. Please enjoy. THE KING IS HERE!
Godzilla 2014 Trailer: "Big and Powerful"
Here's a great review of the Godzilla 2014 teaser trailer shown during the Godzilla panel at the San Diego Comic-Con. The panel hosted director Gareth Edwards and stars, Aaron Taylor Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, and Bryan Cranston. Writer Charlie Jane Anders over at io9 main impression is:
"HOLY SHIT, IS GODZILLA BIG AND POWERFUL."
The new trailer footage shows a giant insect-like monster destroying an airport. The creature looks "massive and powerful". Then, the creature is dwarfed by Godzilla's foot that comes crashing down next to it. A low angle shot shows the insect towering over the airport, then Godzilla towering over the monster like "a skyscraper next to a hut."
Later in the panel Gareth Edwards (The indie Monsters director) talks how the story is really driven by the characters and Aaron Taylor-Johnson said there's , "a great deal of emotion" in the film and we go on "a journey with these characters".
Click on the link above to read the full article and hang in there G-fans. Legendary is sure to release a polished trailer soon. (I hope!)
Godzilla Panel Video from SDCC 2013
Hey G-fans, this is it. Here's a video of the Godzilla panel held on July 20th at the San Diego Comic-Con 2013. The panel hosts director Gareth Edwards and stars, Aaron Taylor Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, and Bryan Cranston. During the panel a teaser trailer was shown with the footage from last year's Comic-con, plus a new scene at an airport. We see a giant insect-like monster destroying planes, when a truely massive foot (Godzilla)stomps down dwarfing the creature. The monsters battle, but Godzilla is never clearly scene. Sorry, that footage is not shown here. Go here for a more complete description of the trailer. An official trailer should be released by Legendary soon.
Exclusive Interview with Gareth Edwards by IGN at SDCC
Here's a video of a great interview with Legendary Pictures' Godzilla reboot director Gareth Edwards. The interview was by IGN at the San Diego Comic-Con 2013. Gareth chooses his words very carefully, but he discusses Godzilla's design as being directly influenced from the original 1954 "Gojira". He also talks a little about the message of the movie as nuclear in nature, but also reflecting modern times. It's great to watch. The interview was taken the day before the Comic-Con Godzilla panel with Edwards and stars, Aaron Taylor Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, and Bryan Cranston. During the panel a rough movie trailer was shown with a battle scene at an airport between an insect-like monster and Godzilla. An official trailer should be released to the public forthcoming.

Godzilla 2014: Inside The Godzilla Encounter SDCC 2013
Here's a cool video that gives you a virtual tour of the Godzilla Encounter attraction from the San Diego Comic-Con. Besides the Encounter, Legendary Pictures held a panel with director Gareth Edwards, and stars, Aaron Taylor Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, and Bryan Cranston. Also at the presentation they showed some footage from the movie. The new scenes were of a giant insect-like monster attacking an airport and then Godzilla's foot stomps down near the creature. A battle ensues, but Godzilla is never clearly seen. For a more complete description of the Godzilla 2014 trailer, go here. A polished trailer has not been released to the general public, but we can expect one soon. Hang in there G-fans.

Official Godzilla 2014 Trailer Description from SDCC
Well, it finally happened! At the Legendary presentation today at San Diego Comic-Con, they showed footage from the movie, if not a full blown trailer. Here's a description from Slashfilm:
" We’re introduced to characters first off: Cranston seems to be an engineer/investigator of some sort — we see him in hazmat gear, and later running towards a crisis event in a government installation as the rest of the staff frantically runs away. Aaron Taylor Johnson is a soldier; Ken Watanabe is seen in a control room of some kind, and Olsen as mentioned above is shown in moments that suggest she’s been a victim of some disaster. A montage of various images shows a world in crisis and deploying military forces to fight some crisis moment.
And then there’s the kaiju attack. The first monster we see is a spindly-legged insectoid thing — is this Mothra? Didn’t quite look like it, but that’s possible. The monster is attacking an airport, and there’s a great wide shot that sees the kaiju destroying a plane, which leads to an explosion the camera follows by panning across a huge set of windows, looking out from inside the airport terminal. Part of the plane’s destroyed fuselage flies right to left across the screen, and is eventually stopped as it crashes into a giant foot.
That’s the intro for Godzilla, and the creature dwarfs the other kaiju. Few shots really show Godzilla, but the scale is very effectively communicated by the relationship between the insectoid monster and our favorite lizard. The overall effect could be described — and this isn’t a literal account of the footage, but an impression of its effect — like a slow pan up from the faces of the various human characters stuck in the middle of a monster-created mess, passing a smaller beast and finally trying to focus on the father of it all, Godzilla, hidden in fire and smoke."
More pictures or details when they come in.
Here's another description from Vulture

Exclusive Gareth Edwards Interview from SDCC 2013
Recently, Shock Till You Drop featured an exclusive interview with Godzilla 2014 director Gareth Edwards at the San Diego Comic-con. He doesn't reveal a lot, but comments on topics such as Godzilla's design, atomic breath, writer Frank Darabont, and more.
First of all, the "bear" Godzilla design statue we've seen featured at the Godzilla Encounter is not the final version in the movie, but pretty close...probably.
Unfortunately, Edwards hinted that Godzilla may not have his trademark atomic breath. He said that the only big buy he's asking of the audience is giant monsters exist. He said there is a nuclear element is the movie, but they want to keep it real.
Please visit the link at the top to read the full article. And stay tuned because there is likely to be a trailer shown at the panel later today!
First of all, the "bear" Godzilla design statue we've seen featured at the Godzilla Encounter is not the final version in the movie, but pretty close...probably.
He had glowing things to say about writer Frank Darabont. The Shawshank Redemption scribe is well known writing emotionally charged characters. He did a "4 week polish" to flesh out the characters from the main script written by Max Borenstein. Edwards talks about one key scene in the movie that's really emotional and that scene helped sign on actors Bryan Cranston and Julliette Binoche.
"When you read it, you're like, Oh my God, and when we shot it, there were people welling up."
About Godzilla's personality, he said he's getting to know Godzilla better now that they're adding him into the special effects after principal shooting finished. He said.
"He's an anti-hero. I wouldn't describe him as a good guy, but he's not evil personified. He's the punishment we deserve, you know?"
Please visit the link at the top to read the full article. And stay tuned because there is likely to be a trailer shown at the panel later today!

Stan Winston's Godzilla Concept Design
With all that's been going on, I thought I'd share special effects master, Stan Winston's Godzilla Concept sculpture. This was made in preparation for the 1998 Tri-star film. The concept was abandoned, yet I see some similarities with the new concept of Godzilla 2014. Winston's design was very anthropomorphic with an upright pose and scaly, crocodile like skin. I can't believe I hadn't posted this yet.
Godzilla Encounter Updates Continue
Here are more updates from Legendary's viral site, Godzilla Encounter showing real historical events linked to Godzilla movies. You can visit and download their app for mobile devices. Among other things, you can use the app to translate these Japanese messages.

Godzilla 2014 "Bear" Concept Sculpture Photos
Here are some more pictures of the models at Godzilla Encounter. It's been rumored that LP modeled the new Godzilla's behavior off of bears. This design is distinctly bear-like. This may not be the final design we see in the movie, but it gives you a sense of the direction they're going in. The creature's tail looks an awful like the one in the new teaser poster.
Godzilla Encounter Update
While things are going crazy about Godzilla over at the Comic-Con. There have been several new images posted on Legendary's viral site Godzilla Encounter. Check them out.
This looks like the first in a series of historical posts about Godzilla. It's clear that Legendary is honoring the traditions of the past and may be giving us clues as to Godzilla's origins in the new film. |
The irradiating of "Lucky Dragon #5" in March 1954 due to the Bikini atoll nuclear test was the real life historical event that inspired the first Godzilla film which was amazingly completed only a few months later and was released on November 9th, Culture Day in Japan. The ships chief radio operator died of Leukemia six months after the incident, before "Gojira" was even released! |
Translation: "The People's Monster": In the 1960's, Godzilla became the people's/nation's monster and this natural menace became beloved by children. |
Tomoyuki Tanaka, one of Godzilla's "Fathers" was the producer who first had the idea of making the monster movie which became "Gojira", in part inspired by the tragic events of Lucky Dragon #5. |
New Official Godzilla 2014 Teaser Poster!
Amid all the excitement around the Godzilla Encounters event at the San Diego Comic-Con, Legendary Pictures has just released a teaser poster for the Godzilla 2014 reboot. It's pretty exciting and gives us a look at Godzilla's tail. To me the tail closely resembles the concept art sculpture seen at Godzilla Encounters. This is just the beginning as we'll see more coming from the Comic-Con including cast members, Aaron-Taylor Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, and Bryan Cranston. Stay tuned for more.
