Cool Godzila 2014 Teaser Silhouette Art

Brandon Spokes created this Godzilla 2014 silhouette from the San Diego Comic-con teaser trailer screenshot. He created it using SketchBook Pro and posted it on the Facebook Godzilla 3D (2014) fan page. You can join the conversation on Facebook and see Brandon's other artwork. Thanks.

The new Godzilla 3D reboot from Legendary Pictures is scheduled to be released on May 16, 2014.

Godzilla Walk Test Videos

Here are two independent CG walk test Godzilla videos. The second one is based on the unused Stan Wnston Godzilla design, a little too humanoid for me. That was for a movie that was never made. More interesting concepts. But enjoy, a pictures worth a thousand words.

Another Godzilla 2014 Fan Trailer

Here's yet another Fan trailer for the Godzilla 2014 reboot by Legendary Pictures.  It has an atomic them and clips from various Godzilla movies. Enjoy.

Godzilla 2014 to Take Place in Tokyo

Here's a little tidbit of news, according to Scified, The new Godzilla 3D 2014 reboot by Legendary Pictures and directed by Gareth Edwards will primarily take place in Tokyo and perhaps also the states. They also said that an official trailer would soon be on the way. It's hard to confirm things at this point, but it makes me wonder if the movie will actually be a historical film and at least partially take place in the past(1950s)? It does seem clear from details of the San Diego teaser trailer earlier this year, that the film will take Godzilla back to his atomic roots. Go to the source to read more and stay tuned for details as they develop.

Awesome Godzilla 2014 Fan Art

This awesome artwork by Matt Frank on Deviantart.com is an interpretation of the Legendary Pictures Godzilla that appeared in the San Diego Comic-con's Godzilla 2014 Teaser Trailer . It's not an official image, but it really is cool. It gives you a sense of what the new Godzilla may be like.

The new Godzilla 3D movie by Legendary Pictures will be released on May 16. 2014. We can't wait!

More Godzilla 2014 Concept Art

Here's some more possible Godzilla 2014 3D concept art. Sorry, no head. Can't confirm anything, but looks cool. Godzilla opens in theaters May 16, 2014

First Godzilla 2014 Casting

According to the Internet Movie Database, there are two actors lined up for the Godzilla 2014 reboot coming from Legendary Pictures.

1. Aaron Shang-(Carl Takahashi) Chinese TV and movie actor appearing in many American and British productions, most famous for the Chinese historical action drama "Three Kingdoms" and the Chinese Sherlock Holmes style, "Detective Dee". He is apparently playing a Japanese American Carl Takahashi.

2. Tommy Wiseau-(Johnny) Looking more like a rock star, Tommy Wiseau is most famous for his independant film, "The Room"(2001). To me, this guy just looks bad. He can't be the hero. I'm sure he'll play some kind of heavy.

As Godzilla 2014 3D goes into pre-production, nothing's set in stone and IMBD is well known for errors as well as a lack of sources. No big names yet, but I'm sure they're coming soon.

Legendary's Godzilla 2014 3D opens on May 16, 2014.

Godzilla 2014 to Start Filming in Vancouver in March

Godzilla goes to Canada!

It was previously reported by cinematographer, Seamus Mcgarvey, that the Godzilla 2014 reboot from Legendary Pictures would start filming, "March till June, I think".  Now, that's been confirmed by Godzilla 2014's Dan Lin, one of a long line of producers on the film. He said recently in an interview with Collider,

"We’re planning to film in March. We are in deep pre-production. Gareth [Edwards] has really mapped out his vision for the movie, you saw the teaser, but Gareth—thanks to [Legendary CEO] Thomas Tull’s help—he took over a whole stage on the Warner Brothers lot and not only showed the teaser you saw, he had some models built of Godzilla, he had art decorated all over the soundstage, he had pre-vis of some of the big action sequences in the movie."

When asked about locations, he responded,

"Most likely it's filming in Vancouver."

Lin also commented on Director Gareth Edward's previously stated "realistic and grounded" approach,

"So we’re in deep pre-production and Gareth’s vision of the movie is really exciting, it’s a true reboot of Godzilla. And you saw from the Comic-Con footage it is a grounded, realistic version of Godzilla. What would happen if Godzilla came into our world today?"

All this comes as good news, just days after a very "grounded" still shot from the San-Diego's Comic-Con teaser trailer surfaced on Facebook. Personally, I can't wait.

Godzilla opens in theaters May 16, 2014.

Godzilla 2014 Script Finished!

As reported at Comic Book Movie.com and announced by screenwriter Drew Pearce himself, the script for the Godzilla 2014 reboot by Legendary Pictures is complete. Pearce, an obsessive twitter, was brought in to give the script a "4 week polish" and mostly to adjust the ages of some of the characters. He broke the news through twitter. As previously reported, Cinematographer Seamus Mcgarvey stated that he was now testing to decide what kind of visual approach to take with the film and shooting would start in March 2013. What we are waiting for now is casting information, which should be coming by the beginning of next year. News about the new Godzilla reboot first came out in 2010 and now, finally, things are starting to heat up. It's about damn time.

Seamus Mcgarvey: Godzilla 2014 starts shooting, "March til June.."

It was recently reported in Comic Book Movie, that Seamus Mcgarvey, the cinematographer on the Godzilla 2014 reboot by Legendary Pictures, commented on the shooting dates;

"We start in March. March ‘til June, I think."

No details on where and Mcgarvey said that he hadn't decided which approach to take visually;

Seamus Mcgarvey (Avengers) , Cinematographer on Godzilla 2014

It was reported by Clevver Movies that Avengers cinematographer Seamus Mcgarvey will be the  cinematographer on the Legendary Pictures Godzilla 2014 reboot. In the report, the Oscar nominated Mcgarvey was blasted for his work on Avengers by Dark Knight Rises cinematographer Wally Pfister. Mcgarvey previous work includes Atonement and Anna Karenina both historical romances starring Keira Knightly and We need to talk about Kevin, a family drama.  It makes me wonder if Knightly will possibly be in the new Godzilla 2014 picture. It's unclear how Mcgarvey previous work prepares him to shoot a monster movie of epic destruction, but perhaps we should let his resume speak for itself. You decide.

Godzilla 2014 Teaser Trailer Re-Creation

This is a re-creation of the Godzilla 2014 teaser trailer shown at the San Diego 2012 Comic con. It shows a few different details than we've seen and was made from the director's best memory. Enjoy

Godzilla 2014 'Accidental' Gareth Edwards Interview

Here's a cool 'accidental' mini interview with Gareth Edwards at San Diego's Comic- con. He says how the Godzilla design in the teaser trailer will no doubt go through some changes, but that Godzilla does have a neck. Thanks so much to Kewllerworks for this.

Godzilla 2014 Gareth Edwards Interview (San Diego Cvomic Con, 2012)

Here's part of an interview with Gareth Edwards earlier this year by Flicks and the City at the San Diego Comic-con. He talks about the Godzilla 2014 reboot by Legendary Pictures. He comments on fan's expectations and dealing with a big Hollywood budget, which he likens to wanting candy in a candy store; fairly deep. He speaks in his characteristic, slightly numbly, non-committal way. I have to say, even though I like Edwards, listening to him talk doesn't exactly instill confidence that's he's in charge. It's really a group effort though, isn't it? And, why do British people pronounce it "Godziller"?  Enjoy.

Godzilla 2014 "Extremely Epic" according to writer Drew Perace

According to screenwriter Drew Perace, the new Godzilla 2014 reboot from Legendary Pictures will be "Extremely Epic". Perace is a hot commodity in Hollywood right now and is working on both "Iron Man 3", and "Sherlock Holmes 3" and seems to like doing Robert Downey Jr. movies.
Perace is writer number 4 to work on the script after, David Callaham (The Expendables), then David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight) and then  Max Borenstein (The Seventh Son), after him. Perace is not making major plot changes, the basic story is set, but was brought in to give the script a "four week polish" and specifically to change the ages of the characters, presumably to better match Legendary's intended casting picks.

Luckily for us fans, what does set Perace apart is unlike his predecessors who have admitted or acknowledged nothing at all about the project, Perace has given scant, but tantalizing clues about the movie on twitter.

Besides being "Extremely Epic", he said "it's looking exciting and Gareth is very very talented".

All this information comes from writer, Zennie 62 on  his website. Zennie expertly evaluates and "reads between the lines" of Perace's comments, and of course, offers his own two cents. Zennie is a great writer on a variety of topics and was one of the very first people to write about the new Godzilla reboot back when the news first broke back in 2010. Follow the link below for the full article.

Everything I've read and heard so far gives this writer confidence that everyone involved at Legendary Pictures are committed to making this a great film for fans and everyone. Next, I'm looking forward to any casting news on Godzilla 2014. Keep you posted.

More Godzilla 2014 Trailers (Fan-Made)

Here are a few fan made trailers for Godzilla 2014. They are both done in the same style as the San Diego Comic-con trailer with Oppenheimer's famous 'I am become death..' speech playing in the background. It gives you sense of dread and takes Godzilla squarely back to his origins as a metaphor for the nuclear bomb. Both are well done, my hat's off to the creators. The real trailer isn't available yet, but I'll post it when it is. The last is a supposed leaked soundtrack. Enjoy.

New Writer and Casting News for Godzilla 2014

Here's a few morsels of news to keep you going:

1. Iron Man 3 screenwriter Drew Pearce has been brought in to polish up the script for Legendary Pictures Godzilla 2014 reboot. This makes the 4th writer to work on the script after David Callahan (The Expndables), David Goyer(The Dark Knight), and Max Borenstein (The Seventh Son). This is not a major re-write, however, but Pearce's job is to age the characters to match the actors Legendary is hoping for(whoever they are).

2. It's been revealed that Gareth Edwards is scheduled to start shooting for Godzilla 2014 in Vancouver, Canada in March 2013 (presumably in 3D).

3. Casting for Legendary Pictures Godzilla 2014 will begin within a month from now. I post developments and updates as soon as they come available.

Giant Monsters back in Vogue?

Could we be on the verge of a new golden age of giant movie monsters? For half a century, the west has been consuming and at the same time belittling the stream of giant monster fantasy films (kaiju eiga) from Japan featuring actors in a rubber suit. Americans have had a love/hate relationship with these films, but seemed unable to produce their own. The only giant monster movie produced in America in the Japanese style was Zarkorr, The Invader (1996). Later there was the dissapointing American Godzilla(1998) by Ronald Emmerich. Japan could rest assured it had the corner on the market.

Welcome to 2012. Not only with Legendary Pictures and Gareth Edwards making the "Godzilla 2014" reboot, and Guillermo Del Toro doing the same with "Pacific Rim", but producer Adrian Askarieh (“Hitman”) and director Andre Avredal (“Trollhunter”) are bringing the comic book series, "Enormous" to the big screen. "Enormous" is about marauding giant monsters that destroy civilization after an ecological disaster.

It seems Hollywood movie makers are finally ready to take on these giant films that pay homage to the classic B-movies from Japan, in a modern way. Mainstream America is learning what we Kaiju fans have known for years, giant monsters are where it's at. This seems to be the next big thing is Hollywood. zombies are out, superheros are getting old, giant monsters are in. Here's the original article from The Examiner

Godzilla 2014 Release Date Announcement!!

Well everybody, our dreams are coming true. On September 13, 2012, Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures jointly  announced the release date for the new Godzilla 2014 reboot. The film will come out on Friday, May 16, 2014.  Here's the official announcement from Legendary's facebook page:

"
THE ICONIC MOVIE MONSTER GODZILLA STOMPS INTO THEATERS ON MAY 16, 2014

BURBANK, CA, September 13, 2012 – Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures have slated their take on the classic Godzilla franchise to kick off the Summer moviegoing season on May 16, 2014. The joint announcement was made today by Dan Fellman, President of Domestic Distribution, and Veronika Kwan Vandenberg, President of International Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures, and by Legendary Pictures.

Toho Co., Ltd.’s Godzilla franchise contains one of the most widely recognized movie monsters worldwide, including more than 25 films, multiple television programs, video games and book series. Legendary, which has been developing the project, and its partner Warner Bros. will return the character to its epic roots with a gritty, realistic actioner. The project will fall under Legendary’s overall agreement with Warner Bros.

The film is directed by Gareth Edwards, who earned worldwide acclaim for his feature directorial debut, “Monsters.” Edwards directs from a screenplay by David Callaham (“The Expendables” films), David S. Goyer (the “Dark Knight” trilogy) and Max Borenstein (upcoming “The Seventh Son”). Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni will produce, along with Roy Lee, Dan Lin and Brian Rogers. Alex Garcia and Patricia Whitcher will serve as executive producers alongside Doug Davison, Yoshimitsu Banno and Kenji Okuhira.

A presentation of Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, the film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company, except in Japan, where it will be distributed by Toho Co., Ltd. The tent pole film is expected to be presented in 3D.

-wbp-"

Incidentally, Godzilla will open the same weekend as Michael Bay's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot. I'm not worried about the competition. We can expect more details on Godzilla coming soon, hopefully at the Comic-con in October. I hope to see the teaser trailer online, soon, too. I've placed a countdown clock on my top page, about a year and a half to go. Hang in there G-fans, there's light at the end of the tunnel.

More Godzilla 2014 Fan Art

Here are a few cool images I found online. They are all fan made and not official Legendary Pictures designs. The model was no doubt inspired by the teaser trailer image from Comic-con on July 15. There's also a faux DVD cover that uses older images, but looks pretty cool.

Godzilla 2014 at Comic Con International

Comic-con, San Diego,  July 15, 2012:

Yes, everyone, The Godzilla 2014 reboot is still a go. Legendary Pictures held a Godzilla 2014 discussion panel with director Gareth Edwards and also released an official teaser poster with the word "Godzilla", and "Gojira" in Japanese in the background. The poster is the first official image released from Legendary since their Godzilla illustration in 2010. Most exciting of all, they showed a teaser trailer. The trailer is not available yet online, but an attendee snapped a still photo of Godzilla, pretty cool stuff. Here's the poster and the still image. I've also included a short video of Edwards talking about the film. He said he's always wanted to do a Godzilla film and this one is "realistic" and "grounded", not a sci-fi film.
