This is a sketch of the new Godzilla 2014 design done by Bob Eggleton. Eggleton is well known to Godzilla fans as one of the best Godzilla artists of all time. He's rendered Godzilla for numerous comic book and novel covers and illustrations. It's unclear if he was involved in the designing of Legendary's Godzilla or he sketched this from the Godzilla Encounter images, but from the quote, he seems to have some access behind the scenes. Thanks to Tom Fardy and Nick Murray from the Godzilla 3D Facebook page for these.

Here you are, Famous Monsters Of Filmland's Godzilla artist Bob Eggleton has revealed this:
"He's got a dog/bear like forward vision face that I think lends a lot of personality. His spikes start off the back of his head and, he has what appears to be spiky, thorny shoulders and these "thorns" extend down the arm. Which is exactly how Akira Takarada described him..."
And yes, original Godzilla actor Akira Takarada IS in this new movie, which is a contemporary remake of the original 1954 film.
