Will Godzilla 2014 Muto Monsters Be 'Evil Mothras'?

Multi-legged kaiju Carcass(teaser trailer)

Godzilla 2014 'Muto' Monsters Have Wings!
Muto sketch

Legendary Pictures' Godzilla reboot is coming out on May 16, 2014. And an official trailer is
soon forthcoming. It's been previously stated that Godzilla will have multiple monster opponents in the film, but what will these monsters be like and how to they fit into the story? I'll take a look at what we know to date with some educated guessing and outright speculation.

The Facts:

This is the official story synopsis:

An epic rebirth to Toho's iconic Godzilla, this spectacular adventure, from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, pits the world's most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity's scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence.

From the Trailers:

Godzilla 2014 Muto Monster Fan Art
'Centipede' kaiju fan art
1. In the first teaser trailer from the 2012 Comic-con that was leaked online recently, there was the colossal charred carcass of a multi-legged centipede-like kaiju.

2. In the newer 2013 Comic-Con trailer, there was an additional scene of a giant 8-legged, spider-like kaiju attacking an airport, smashing planes, when Godzilla's enormous foot comes down beside it, dwarfing the other kaiju. An attendee of the trailer later made the sketch above and posted it online. This footage has yet to be released to the general public, but I guess will be included in the new trailer coming very soon.

From toy pre-sales:

1. One toy pre-sale from Urban-collector, Deluxe "Destruction Pack" description named the 8-legged monster Muto, meaning 'transformation', or short for 'mutation'.

2. Another pre-sale toy from http://www.tfaw.com, "Godzilla 2014 Movie Destruction Pack Assortment" describes "Winged Muto".

giant centipede
Transforming Kaiju?:

But what are these new kaiju foes? It seems clear from the synopsis that they aren't extraterrestrial monsters like King Ghidorah, but home-grown kaiju created by man. The much larger kaiju carcass from the trailer was initially described as a giant centipede. Later others thought it more closely resembled a giant mutated isopod or sea louse, a deep sea relative of the pill bug. So perhaps we have a spider monster and a giant centipede monster from the sea?

giant isopod, sea louse
Are these two different monsters or could these be different forms of the same creature? Could this be a morphing monster or one going through different stages of it's life cycle? If this is true, it's not without precedent. Many of Godzilla's monster opponents took on different forms most notable, The Smog Monster, Hedorah. This would make sense since one of Godzilla 2014 producers is Yoshimitsu Banno who was the director of Godzilla vs. Hedorah. Other monsters with many smaller creatures and one final adult form (often being able to fly) are the crustacean like Destroyah, The giant dragon-fly monster Megaguirus, and crystalline space monster from the 90's Gamera trilogy, Legion.

Godzilla vs. Megaguirus horde
What relationship if any exists between Godzilla and these monsters? Why do they fight? I doubt they just happen to bump into each other. Is Godzilla seeking them out to destroy them or is it the other way around? In movies past, monsters have actively sought out Godzilla to feed of his energy like Ogra in Godzilla 2000 or Megaguirus. And Godzilla himself is attracted to powerful sources of nuclear or electrical energy. Could this be a predator/prey relationship? There is a very good scene in Godzilla vs. Megaguirus where a swarm of smaller monsters attacks Godzilla to drain his energy. I think we will see a similar scene in Godzilla 2014.

Mothra
A new Mothra?

One of the most interesting takes on this was an article I read from Godzilla Fans Universe
where the author suggests that Godzilla's monster enemies were inspired by real life events. The article quotes a Japanese research paper, published in June, 2012 that studied the effects of irradiated soil on silkworm larvae in the aftermath of the Fukushima Earthquake and resulting tsunami/nuclear power plant disaster. The silkworms were exposed to contaminated soil to see how it would affect their development. The larvae were contained in 4 canisters. The researcher, Dr. Tomita detected abnormally large growth in canister number 4. He even said in the paper, "They reminded me of Godzilla." This report was published in several Japanese journals and later picked up by the BBC. Could this have inspired Legendary Pictures? It reminds me of Dr. Niko Tatopoulos investigating giant earthworms at Chernobyl at the beginning of the Tri-star's Godzilla film.

Battra larvae

Silkworm larvae have claws and multi-legged segmented bodies. The giant carcass
from the trailer could the be larvae form of a gigantic moth monster. Sound familiar? Could this new creature be a modern-day homage or interpretation of Godzilla's most famous foe Mothra? Mothra was a benevolent God battling an evil Godzilla. But wait, in 1992's Godzilla vs. Mothra, Godzilla battles Mothra's evil twin, Battra, first in larval form and then in winged, adult form.

Battra
In the leaked teaser trailer we see the charred carcass of the centipede/larvae creature and then see Godzilla turn and roar in profile. The battle seems to be over. But one writer on the Godzilla facebook page had a different interpretation. That wasn't a dead body, it was the molted skin as the creature took on it's final adult winged form. The battle was only half over with Godzilla turning to face his enemy. Wow!

So there you have it. Godzilla will battle the Mutos, first a horde of smaller insect monsters, then a giant larvae and finally a winged adult monster reminiscent of Mothra's dark twin Battra. Well, maybe.

The official trailer is expected around Nov 3rd, the 59th anniversary of the original release of Gojira in 1954. We're sure to get a better peek at the enemy monsters as well a Godzilla himself. Stay tuned on this site for more trailers and news.

Comic-Book Style Godzilla 2014 Fan Art

This is a very dark anime or comic-book style Godzilla 2014 fan art based on the teaser trailer footage. Can't wait!

Godzilla 2014 'Muto' Monsters Have Wings!

First Godzilla 2014 Action Figures and Monster Opponent's Name Revealed

We have some more details about the Muto monster foes in the upcoming Godzilla 2014 reboot.
It was revealed recently from a pre-sale toy from Urban-collector, the 8-legged monster similar to the one pictured above is called "Muto" probably short for "mutation" or means transformation.

Now we've learned that at least some of them can fly! Another pre-sale toy, the"Godzilla 2014 Movie Destruction Pack Assortment" from http://www.tfaw.com offers this description:

Bring the excitement of the all-new Godzilla movie home and fight for humanity as Godzilla, or be the Winged Muto and try to destroy the world! Your epic kaiju battles are sure to crumble cities and bring in the Air Force! Each pack features one (1) figure, one (1) destructible building, and one (1) military aircraft. Exclusive Winged 3.5" Muto Is only available in this assortment. Blister card packaging.

The 8-legged Muto monster appeared in the 2013 Comic-Con teaser trailer in a scene from the movie; it is attacking an airport, destroying planes, when Godzilla's gigantic foot comes crashing down next to it before they battle. That portion of the trailer hasn't been released to the public. We've also seen the charred carcass of another colossal multi-legged kaiju from the first leaked teaser trailer that you can watch on this site. Are these two different monsters, or different forms of the same species? More details will be revealed very soon as an official trailer is expected to be released by the end of this week, perhaps attached to Thor 2, The Dark World.

Keep your eyes peeled to this site for more news and the trailer.

Powerful Godzilla 2014 Fan Art

Godzilla 2014 Poster/Sculpture Comparison

Here's a composite image of the official Godzilla 2014 poster on the left, which exactly matches the "bearzilla" concept sculpture from the Godzilla Encounter event at this year's Comic-Con on the right. Actually, I though as much after I saw the new poster, and this image confirms it. This concept will probably not be the final design in the movie, but it's "pretty close" according to director Gareth Edwards.

The official Trail;er is expected to be released on November 3rd and will be posted immediately on this website. November 3rd is the 59th anniversary of the original "Gojira" in 1954. November 3rd is Culture Day in Japan, a national holiday and among other things, known as Godzilla Day. Keep your shirts on , the King is coming soon!

New Godzilla 2014 Tail Size Chart

Here's a new Godzilla 2014 size chart with Godzilla's tail from the official poster. This chart may not be exactly to scale, but you get the idea. At an estimated 120-150 meters(394-492 ft.) tall, Legendary's Godzilla is the biggest yet, and may be the biggest movie monster of all time. I can't wait.

Godzilla 2014 Muto Monster Fan Art

This is a fan art based on the multi-legged kaiju carcass seen in the leaked Godzilla 2014 teaser trailer. That creature has often been described as a giant centipede, while some say it more closely resembles a giant isopod or sea louse. This is one fan's take on the monster. Personally, I think the head would be bigger and more defined

It is known for sure that one of Godzilla's kaiju opponents is/are named Muto, which means "transformation". This conformation comes from a Godzilla 2014 pre-sale toy that describes it as an 8-legged kaiju. This is the same monster described from the 2013 Comic-con teaser trailer not released or leaked to the general public. A sketch of the monster was made by an attendee and posted online and can be seen on this website or in my gallery. The creature depicted above may or may not share the same name. It's unknown what relationship if any exists between the "Centipede" kaiju and the "spider" Muto kaiju.

Soon however, we can expect the official trailer to be released by Legendary pictures on November 3th, the 59th anniversary of the original "Gojira" in 1954. November 3rd in Japan is a national holiday, Culture day and also known as Godzilla Day.

Godzilla comes out in theaters, May 16, 2014.

Godzilla Footprint Sighting!

Recently, Bruce E. Simmons was hiking in Garin Regional Park near Union City, CA. When he came across this unusual formation and snapped a picture, later posting it on Facebook. It hasn't been confirmed by experts, yet but my opinion is this is Godzilla's footprint. This makes sense since Godzilla is expected to attack San Fransisco in Legendary Pictures Godzilla 2014 reboot.
Run for the hills! Thanks Bruce.

Godzilla 2014 To Have Atomic Breath and new Action Figures!

Godzilla 2014 Concept Fan Art

In July, Godzilla 2014  director Gareth Edwards was interviewed by Shock Till You Drop and asked about Godzilla's trademark atomic breath, Edwards replied:

"It was important to me to make it as believable as possible and with all of those elements you've mentioned, they're in the film but I tried to put them in the film where they're not so fantastical that you don't believe it.  Hopefully, the only big buy the audience has to make - and I believe there can only be one buy - is that giant creatures can exist.  Beyond that, we try to make it as realistic as possible.  Throughout the franchise, there's consistently been these elements related to Godzilla and they're in this film, but it was about making it feel natural in our film.  I can't go into much more details.  There is a nuclear element in the movie."

This was of great concern to me and fans as  it suggested Godzilla wouldn't have his atomic breath weapon, but recently this question seems to be answered with the release of a Godzilla 2014 action figure from Urban-collector for pre-order. The 10 inch toy is described as thus:

Godzilla 2014 Movie Deluxe Attack & Roar Action Figure Asst is an Urban Collector pre-order. With collector-level detailing, this large scale figure brings the new Godzilla to life as he blasts his powerful atomic breath and lets out his iconic roar! Figure measures approximately 10' tall, and features authentic sounds and 'atomic breath' action. Open box packaging.

This seems to assure that G will have bad breath in the new movie. On the other hand, sometimes toys do things that their movie characters did not. But I'm gonna take this a strong yes on atomic breath. Godzilla fans rejoice!

First Godzilla 2014 Action Figures and Monster Opponent's Name Revealed

Godzilla 2014 Insect Monster Foe Sketches

Attention!! There are now at least 4 new Godzilla 2014 action figures and toys now available for pre-order from Urban-collector. And not only that, but the name of Godzilla's monster opponent was revealed in the description...Muto!

Here's the description of the Deluxe "Destruction Pack"(sorry, no pictures, yet):

Godzilla 2014 Movie Deluxe Destruction Pack Case is an Urban Collector pre-order. Bring the excitement of Legendary Pictures' Godzilla home with this deluxe 'Destruction Pack' featuring figures of Godzilla and the exclusive 8-legged Muto measuring 3.5'. Set includes two kaiju, plus three (3) destructible buildings & bridge, and five (5) military vehicles. Widnow box packaging.

This matches up with the monster described in the Comic-Con Trailer. A giant, spider like creature attacks an airport, shortly before Godzilla's foot comes crashing down. Godzilla dwarfs the other creature in size. Later an attendee to the Comic-Con sketched this picture above of the creature now known as Muto. It brings to mind Godzilla's old foe from the 60's, the giant spider monster, Speega or more correctly, Kumonga(kumo is Japanese for spider). Kumunga was one of Godzilla's most impressive and terrifying opponents. I'm sure the new kaiju will be even more so.

This Muto is different from the much larger, multi-legged kaiju carcass briefly seen in the leaked Godzilla 2014 teaser trailer. That trailer was from the Comic-Con last year and was soon removed from the Internet. Because of the legs, some described it as a giant centipede like monster, while recently some say it more resembles a mutated giant isopod or sea louse. We know of at least two of Godzilla's monster foes. Are these two creatures somehow related?

Honestly, I'm not so impressed with the name "Muto". It's probably short for "mutation". To me it sounds more like the name of a breath mint or a Hispanic rock band. In Japanese when talking about coffee, "muto" means sugar-free. Anyway, it's news and I'm sure the monsters themselves will be impressive. Visit Urban Collector through the link above to place your pre-orders. The toys should be available around March 2014, 2 months earlier than the movie's release.

Godzilla 2014 Bryan Cranston and Elizabeth Olsen Interview

Here's another San Diego Comic-co 2013 interview with Godzilla 2014 stars Elizabeth Olsen and Bryan Cranston. This one comes from Cosmic Book News.

At the beginning of the video and again at the 1:45 mark is an interview with Sullivan Stapleton (300: Rise of an Empire) and you can see a peek of Godzilla 2014 director Gareth Edwards in the background smiling shyly at the camera.

At about the 3:30 mark, Bryan Cranston talks about Godzilla as a very character driven film:

"By investing in these characters it's a richer experience for the audience."

Elizabeth Olsen says about the story:

"It's driven by a narrative, by a family" The story is told from the characters perspective.."if it really would happen."

Later Cranston reassured us the new Godzilla will have a very nuclear theme.:

"It revolves around the concept of energy..nuclear energy." "Whenever you think you can contain an energy like that, perhaps you're being foolish, and Godzilla teaches us that."

Everything I hear about this production just gets me more and more excited. This will be a movie for everyone, not just fans. Godzilla 2014 will be a spectacular effects monster film, centered on a solid, human story. I can't wait!

Movie Monster Size Comparison Chart

Here's another monster size comparison chart This one comes via Make Use Of. It compares the 1954 Godzilla with other famous movie monsters the likes of King Ghidorah, King Kong, Cloverfield, The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms, the Stay-Puff Marshmallow Man, and the lesser known Giant Claw. On this chart, at 50 meters(164 ft.) Godzilla is number 2 after Ghidorah in size. But all of them would be dwarfed by the new Legendary Pictures Godzilla at an estimated 120-150 meters(394-492 ft.), the largest of all time.

Dark Godzilla 2014 Fan Art Poster

Here's a dark Godzilla 2014 fan art poster from Tinybutdeadly on Deviantart. The overall style reminds one of the Cloverfield poster. The broken buildings at the bottom bring to mind the Sept. 11 wreckage. And holes in the buildings remind me of the shots from the leaked Godzilla 2014 trailer. Pretty cool. Is that Godzilla's silhouette in the background behind the buildings?

Godzilla 2014 Trailer Review from 'Beyond the Trailer'

Sorry everyone, my trailer was taken down, too like everywhere else, but here is a great review that sums upall my comments too. This is from Beyond the Trailer. And don't worry, the Official Trailer shoul be coming out on Nov. 3rd., the original release date of Gojira(1954) November 3rd is Culture Day in Japan and also Godzilla Day. Keep your hats on.

Godzilla 2014 HD Trailer Still

This is a still shot taken from the recently leaked Godzilla 2014 trailer. It's the same image snapped from the trailer at Comic-con two years ago, but much higher resolution. The official Godzilla trailer is expected to be released Nov. 3rd. This is the date of the original Gojra's release in 1954. The day is a national holiday in Japan, Culture Day, and among other things, is more recently known as Godzilla Day.

Godzilla 2014 Fan-Made Poster

Here's another great Fan Art poster that appeared online. Fans will recognize the claws of he unidentified centipede like creature carcass from the leaked Godzilla trailer. Very effective.
Keep in mind, the real Godzilla 2014 trailer is expected to be released on Nov. 3rd, Gojira's original release date in 1954, also known as Culture Day in Japan and also Godzilla Day.

Possible "Fake" Godzilla 2014 Movie Poster

This image popped up on the Internet. It seems to be a Godzilla 2014 movie poster with the header reading "A King's Arrival is never silent." This is almost certainly fake. It looks like a composite image, the helicopters look the same as the official movie poster, Godzilla looks like the statue from Godzilla Encounters and the Brazilian Godzilla 2014 movie poster. More importantly, it doesn't seem in line with Legendary's advertising strategy of less is more, hinting and teasing the audience, not showing the full creature. The tag line itself seems too hokey for me.  A nice fan art with photoshop, though.

Godzilla 2014 Trailer Still Shots

Here are still hots taken from the leaked Godzilla 2014 trailer. These come from Godzilla Movies
You can watch the trailer here on the previous post. This is just amazing. The photos show a decimated town and a crushed train, strewn about with dead bodies. It's quite graphic. Below is a hole in a building, perhaps blasted by Godzilla's atomic breath. And lastly, the charred carcass of another dead, centipede like monster. The new Godzilla will blow everyone away!

Official Godzilla 2014 Trailer Online!!

Here it is! Looks like we don't have to wait until Nov. 3rd after all. Earlier today the Godzilla 2014 trailer was leaked. Actually, this is not a new trailer, but the same one from Comic-con in 2012. It doesn't include the extra footage of Godzilla fighting the spider monster at the airport. This is still amazing, though. Very gritty and realistic. It made me think of 2 things:

1. Before in interview, Gareth Edwards suggested Godzilla may not have his characteristic atomic breath, but seeing holes blasted in the buildings and the charred remains of the other monster make me think otherwise.

2. The other monster looked like a formidable opponent, Godzilla is absolutely gigantic and he's a force of nature, but it looks like he has to earn his title as King of the Monsters.

This is incredibly awesome. It's going to blow everyone away. This isn't just a movie for Godzilla fans, but everybody. It's going to be a 'monster' hit of 2014.

I still believe we'll see a new, official trailer on November 3rd, but until then, please enjoy this one. I'm so excited! Godzilla opens in theaters May 16, 2014.

Godzilla 2014 Trailer Coming November 3rd!!(Probably)

Official Godzilla Design Revealed at Godzilla Encounters Event!!

Legendary Pictures' Godzilla 2014 reboot is one of the most highly anticipated trailers on the web and excitement is reaching critical mass. I thought it was surprising that since Comic-con, there has been no leaked trailer or footage on the web. Now I understand why.

It was reported recently on Comic Book Movie and Godzilla Movies that it's rumored that FINALLY the Godzilla 2014 movie trailer will debut in the very near future. If that's true, the most likely date is November 3rd. Why November 3rd? Because the original Gojira(1954) was released on that day.

November 3rd is a national holiday in Japan, Culture Day where Japanese enjoy traditional arts and music. More recently, it has the lesser known title of Godzilla Day. Yes, that's right folks, Godzilla has his own holiday. So what better day to reveal the new trailer than on Godzilla Day, November 3rd.

From the beginning, Legendary Pictures has repeatedly stated they want to honor the original Godzilla series and remain true to the character. This is exactly what fans wanted to hear. We saw Legendary made good on their promise at the San Diego Comic-con's Godzilla Encounter event which showed the new design, or at least very close to it. The new Godzilla has an original look, but is clearly recognizable as the King of the Monsters; a bipedal creature with dorsal plates, a long tail, a tapering neck and small, savage looking head. Bad memories of 1998's giant iguana will soon be wiped away.

Legendary has been carefully developing this picture for nearly 4 years, including promotion, through there viral website, Godzilla Encounter, slowly building hype. Now the time is ripe to reveal Godzilla to the world at exactly the right time on this historic day.  This Godzilla will blow people out of the water and be the 'monster' hit of 2014. Keep your eyes peeled to TV and this website on November 3rd. The wait is almost over!

Top 5 Reasons Godzilla 2014 is going to be a 'Monster' Hit

Official Godzilla Design Revealed at Godzilla Encounters Event!!

The King Returns!

15 years ago, Tri-star and Sony brought us the American Godzilla starring Matthew Broderick and directed by Ronald Emmerich. That movie left a bad taste in peoples' mouths. Fan sentiment was pretty much the same; "That was a cool monster, but that wasn't Godzilla."
Now, after the release of Pacific Rim, about giant kaiju and robots in mortal combat, and after some very exciting things were revealed at San Diego's Comic-con, people are starting to get excited about Legendary Pictures Godzilla reboot next year. I've been following the development of this story from the start, and this Godzilla will be different. I predict this will be one of the biggest movies next year. Here are the top 5 reasons Godzilla 2014 will be a monster hit.

Gareth Edwards, Godzilla 2014 director1. The Director--Gareth Edwards. The virtually unknown Monsters director made a very small movie about alien invaders that made a big splash and turned heads in Hollywood. The soft-spoken, British director understands how to make a good monster movie. First of all, he's a big Godzilla fan. Second, he knows that with any monster movie, you have to start with the human story.  You develop the characters and get to know and care for them. You allude to the monsters, but only show fleeting glimpses that create an atmosphere of fear and builds suspense. When the monsters do appear and do battle, you are more engaged because of the strong character narrative. Godzilla will be a special effects extravaganza, but Edwards knows how to use them effectively, sometimes sparingly to tell the story.

In interview, Edwards said that no matter what scene they were shooting, whether there was a monster in it or not, they always tried to tell the story from an emotional point of view. Then when they went back to add the special effects, "‘I completely forgot there’s a whole other layer to this!’ We have been painstakingly worrying about the characters and their journey and on top of that is this spectacle embedded in the whole film – and it makes you feel really good.”

Official Godzilla 2014 Image2. The Studio--In March 2010, Legendary Pictures and partner Warner Bros. jointly announced that they were developing a new Godzilla reboot picture. This is the same collaboration that created such great films as, The Dark Knight, 300, and Inception. Thomas Tull, chairman and CEO of Legendary Pictures said,

“Godzilla is one of the world's most powerful pop culture icons, and we at Legendary are thrilled to be able to create a modern epic based on this long-loved Toho franchise…Our plans are to produce the Godzilla that we, as fans, would want to see. We intend to do justice to those essential elements that have allowed this character to remain as pop-culturally relevant for as long as it has."

They were also keen to distance themselves from the mistakes of the past Godzilla film and they've been developing this project carefully for the past 4 years and the time is ripe for the return of the king.

Godzilla 2014 Official Design Photos
3. The Story/Script-- For a monster movie, Godzilla's script comes with quite a pedigree, being penned by some of the best screenwriters in the business. David Goyer(Batman Begins, Man of Steel, Superman vs. Batman) wrote the original story idea. Later Max Borenstein(Seventh Son) wrote the main script. Finally, David Pearce((Iron Man 3) and Frank Darabont(Shawshank Redemption, Walking Dead) added a little polish. Darabont especially is known for writing characters and stories with emotional depth. The result is an emotionally charged, character driven story about humans trying to survive in a world of giant monsters.

Here's the official plot synopsis from Legendary Pictures:
"An epic rebirth to Toho's iconic Godzilla, this spectacular adventure, from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, pits the world's most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity's scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence."

Just as in the original Gojira(1954), Legendary's Godzilla will have a somber tone and serious subtext. Unlike Pacific Rim, where the monsters are merely aliens from someplace else, and our technology is used to defend us, Godzilla was created by us and our misuse of technology. Godzilla will still have a nuclear theme, but in a more modern way.
Godzilla 2014 Insect Monster Foe SketchesOn the other hand, there will be plenty of action and monster battles. We know from photos on set, that Godzilla destroys an aircraft carrier, giant monsters attack Waikiki Beach, and the climactic battle takes place in San Fransisco. At the Comic-con, there was a teaser trailer(not shown to the general public)  with a scene from the movie where Godzilla fights a spider-like monster at an airport. An Attendee later sketched a drawing of the monster and posted it online.

4. The Cast--When planning Godzilla, director Gareth Edwards wrote down a list of his 'dream cast' and it's said that he got everyone on his list. The story will focus on the movies three main characters, Lieutenant Ford played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson(Kick-Ass, Kick-Ass 2,), his nurse wife played by Elizabeth Olsen(Martha Marcy May Marlene) and his stepfather scientist played by Bryan Cranston(Breaking Bad). In addition, there is an international supporting cast, Ken Watanabe, Juliette Binoche, and Sally Hawkins. These are some pretty heavy hitters with great acting credentials. There sure to deliver wonderful performances in an emotional story.

Godzilla 2014 Official Design Photos5. The Monster--Whereas the 1998 Tri-star monster was a complete departure from the traditional design, looking like a giant, mutated iguana, Legendary has made good on their commitment to stay true to the original character. We now this because we've seen very close to the final design. The Comic-con's Godzilla Encounter exhibit displayed earlier concept sculptures and a short, up-close encounter video of Godzilla seen from a window. It looks like Godzilla. It's a bipedal creature  with dorsal plates, a tapering neck, and small head with red, feral eyes. Later, a promotional poster in Brazil showed Godzilla's face. And at an estimated 120-150 meters(394-492 feet) tall, this is the biggest Godzilla ever. We can rest assured that this monster will be original, but recognizable as the king of the monsters.
Official Godzilla 2014 Design Revealed on Brazilian Poster

So, there you have it. This will be a Godzilla movie that remains faithful to the original character, has an emotional, character driven story with great special effects and a stellar cast of performers. Legendary really has a winner on their hands. We are seeing the beginning of a whole new golden age of kaiju movies, now from American fans of Japan's most beloved and recognizable star.
